Trump’s Approval Rating Hits New Low Amid Rising Fuel Prices and Iran War Concerns

US President Donald Trump is facing a decline in public support, with his approval rating falling to the lowest since his return to the White House. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found only 36% of Americans approve of Trump’s overall job performance, down from 40% last week.

The survey highlighted growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s handling of economic issues and the cost of living. Gasoline prices in the US have surged sharply after coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. Just 25% of respondents approved of Trump’s approach to living costs, a key focus of his 2024 campaign.

Trump also recorded his lowest-ever approval for economic management at 29%, below any rating during his previous term and lower than former President Joe Biden’s lowest score. Analysts said the poll shows rising public opposition as Americans feel economic pressure.

Concerns over the war in Iran have also affected Trump’s standing. Only 35% of Americans supported US strikes on Iran, while 61% disapproved. About 46% believe the conflict will make the US less safe in the long term. Trump has indicated the conflict may de-escalate, but Iran disputes ongoing negotiations, and Washington plans to deploy additional troops to the region.

Despite these challenges, Trump maintains strong support within the Republican Party. Only about 20% of Republicans disapprove of his overall performance, though dissatisfaction with his handling of living costs has risen to 34%.

The poll also showed that Americans view the economy as weak, with 63% rating it as “somewhat” or “very weak.” While Trump’s approval is declining, Republicans are still favored over Democrats on economic management, immigration, and crime. Democrats hold an edge on healthcare and women’s rights.

Trump’s current approval of 36% is above his first-term low of 33% and slightly higher than Biden’s low of 35%. The poll surveyed 1,272 US adults online with a three-point margin of error, reflecting growing public concern over fuel prices, economic issues, and foreign policy under Trump.

With these challenges, analysts say Trump faces increased scrutiny as the 2024 election campaign intensifies, particularly on economic and security issues that directly affect American voters.
