Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday stated that Pakistan was compelled to initiate operation in Afghanistan due to ongoing security concerns. He added that the operation has been temporarily suspended for Eid at the request of friendly neighboring countries.
Speaking to the media, Governor Kundi said the decision to initiate operation was necessary to target terrorist networks and infrastructure along the border. He emphasized that the pause during Eid does not mean the campaign has ended.
The governor also discussed domestic politics, clarifying that the sentencing of the PTI founder was not decided by the prime minister or president. He advised PTI lawyers to focus on legal proceedings rather than political interference.
“There are multiple factions of the PTI, and it is unclear which one is genuine,” he remarked. He also questioned why provincial hospitals had not been used for the treatment of the party’s founder over the past 13 years.
Governor Kundi emphasized that Pakistan’s priority remains national security. He said the government had no choice but to initiate operation in Afghanistan to respond to unprovoked attacks and secure its borders.
Authorities clarified that the temporary Eid suspension allows for coordination with neighboring countries and ensures minimal civilian disruption. Officials also stressed that the operation will resume fully once the religious holiday concludes.
Security analysts noted that cross-border operations are sometimes necessary to dismantle militant networks. They highlighted that strategic pauses, like the Eid suspension, help maintain diplomatic relations while continuing counterterrorism efforts.
The governor concluded by urging political parties to respect legal processes and focus on national unity. He reinforced that Pakistan will continue to safeguard its citizens and borders while adhering to international norms during such operations.
