KARACHI: Armed men carried out a robbery on a college bus in Karachi, raising fresh safety concerns. The incident took place near Jinnah Medical and Dental College within the limits of New Town police station.
According to police, three suspects on one motorbike reached the parked bus. The Armed men then entered the vehicle and targeted female students on board. A case has been registered on the complaint of bus driver Abdur Rehman.
The FIR states that the suspects appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old. One of the Armed men was wearing a mask, while another used a cap. Their quick entry and exit suggest possible prior surveillance of the bus route.
During the robbery, the Armed men snatched a gold chain from one student. They also took mobile phones from two other students. Another student reported losing her purse, which contained around Rs8,000 in cash.
The suspects fled the scene immediately after the incident. The driver told police he could identify them if seen again. Police have recorded statements from all affected students.
Officials said efforts are ongoing to collect CCTV footage from the area. However, no video evidence has been found so far. The lack of footage has slowed the investigation process.
Despite the registration of the case, no major progress has been reported yet. The incident has raised serious questions about street crime and security in the city.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has taken notice of the case. He has demanded a detailed report from senior officers in Karachi. He also ordered the immediate arrest of those involved.
The police chief warned of action against officers if negligence is found. He directed teams to use witness statements to identify the suspects.
Karachi continues to face a high number of street crimes. Reports show around 40,000 cases were recorded last year. In 2026, over 11,000 cases have already been reported within a few months.
Many of these crimes involve mobile snatching and motorbike theft. Police say stolen items are often moved outside the province or dismantled.
