Smartphones May Get Cheaper in Pakistan As Tax Cuts Move Closer To Approval

Smartphones May Get Cheaper in Pakistan As Tax Cuts Move Closer To Approval

Smartphone prices in Pakistan are expected to drop soon. Many experts believe devices will get Cheaper after new tax changes by authorities.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reduced customs valuation rates on imported used smartphones. This move is expected to lower overall costs for consumers.

The updated valuation rulings apply to major global brands. These include Apple, Samsung, Google, and OnePlus devices. The changes cover a wide range of used smartphones.

After the revision, the assessed value of imported devices has been reduced significantly. This means taxes and duties will also be lower. As a result, phones are likely to get Cheaper in local markets.

For example, used iPhones are now valued between $95 and $295. Earlier, these values were much higher. Samsung devices have also seen a drop, with new valuations between $40 and $255.

These changes directly impact PTA registration costs. Lower valuations mean reduced taxes for users registering imported devices. This is expected to make high-end phones more accessible.

For instance, registering an iPhone 15 Pro Max through CNIC now costs around Rs50,604. This is a major reduction compared to previous rates.

Market analysts say the new pricing will help more people afford flagship phones. Many consumers in Pakistan prefer used premium devices due to lower prices. With this change, these devices will get Cheaper and more attractive.

The new rules came into effect on January 16, 2026. They apply mainly to commercially imported used phones without original packaging.

Experts believe this move will increase demand in the used smartphone market. Importers may also benefit from improved business activity.

The decision is also seen as part of a broader plan. Authorities aim to regulate the market while making technology more affordable.

With growing demand for smartphones and upcoming 5G expansion, affordability is important. The move by the Federal Board of Revenue may support this transition.

Overall, the new policy is expected to help consumers save money. It will also ensure that quality devices get Cheaper and more widely available across Pakistan.
