Power distribution companies (DISCOs) have submitted a major petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The request seeks financial adjustments for the first quarter of 2026.
The hearing is scheduled for 19 May in Islamabad. Officials said the proposal includes a relief package worth Rs63.936 billion for the period from January to March.
If approved, Electricity consumers may see changes in future billing adjustments. The petition outlines several reductions under different cost categories.
A key proposal includes a reduction of Rs36.837 billion under capacity charges. Another adjustment of Rs11.243 billion has been requested for system usage charges and market operation fees.
In addition, DISCOs have requested recovery of Rs2.777 billion under monthly adjustment losses. Another proposed reduction of Rs23.51 billion is linked to incremental units.
Officials stated that the proposed changes would also benefit K-Electric users. This means Electricity consumers across multiple regions could experience revised billing structures.
The petition is part of ongoing efforts to manage power sector costs. Authorities are reviewing multiple financial components before making a final decision.
Earlier, the Sindh government also shared plans to support cheaper electricity generation. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced a strategy to develop a provincial transmission system.
He said the goal is to provide affordable electricity and support industrial growth. The plan includes improving efficiency and reducing transmission losses.
During a meeting with the Danish Ambassador, both sides discussed renewable energy and investment opportunities. Environmental sustainability was also part of the conversation.
Officials believe that better management of the power system will benefit Electricity consumers in the long run. Reduced losses and improved supply efficiency could help lower overall electricity costs.
The government continues to explore solutions for energy challenges. The NEPRA hearing on 19 May will play a key role in deciding whether financial relief is approved.
For now, Electricity consumers are waiting for clarity on potential changes in electricity tariffs following the proposed adjustments.
