Air travelers using Islamabad Airport may continue to face delays and operational disruptions until May 10 after the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a fresh advisory for airlines and passengers.
According to the latest Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), flight operations at Islamabad Airport could be affected during specific time periods due to what officials described as “operational reasons.”
The advisory warned airlines about possible delays in both arrivals and departures between 10:45am and 12:15pm on May 8. Additional disruptions are also expected from 8:00pm to 9:15pm on May 9 and May 10.
Authorities have instructed airlines to take precautionary measures to avoid operational problems during the affected periods. Aircraft operators were specifically advised to carry extra fuel to manage potential airborne holding delays.
The latest warning has created concern among passengers, especially frequent travelers who regularly use Islamabad Airport for domestic and international flights.
Similar disruptions were previously reported in March when airport operations were temporarily suspended for around two hours under comparable conditions. During that period, airlines also received instructions to prepare for delays and fuel-related precautions.
Officials have not announced a complete suspension of flight operations. However, passengers have been advised to stay updated through their airlines and monitor flight schedules before heading to the airport.
The operational advisory comes as Islamabad experiences increased military air activity due to the ongoing Marka-e-Haq flypast exercise. Authorities confirmed that the aerial drills are part of scheduled training exercises and preparations for national events.
Residents in Islamabad and nearby areas may hear loud aircraft movements and witness military maneuvers throughout the day. Officials stressed that the exercises are routine and there is no immediate cause for public concern.
The recent activity is also being viewed in the context of regional tensions following developments between Pakistan and India in May 2025. Analysts believe the exercises reflect the Pakistan Air Force’s preparedness and operational readiness.
Travel experts say such exercises can temporarily impact civilian flight operations, especially in busy airspaces around major cities. Delays may occur if air traffic routes are adjusted during military activities.
Passengers traveling during the affected dates are being encouraged to arrive early and remain in contact with their airlines for updated information. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the operational restrictions will continue beyond May 10.

The Pakistan Airports Authority said it will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates if necessary. Travelers are advised to remain patient as airlines and airport staff work to manage schedules during the disruption period.
