PTA Warns Mobile Users of SIM Blocking Over Expired CNICs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important warning to mobile phone users across the country regarding possible SIM Blocking linked to invalid CNIC records.

According to the PTA, SIM cards registered against expired, cancelled, or deceased Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) are being blocked as part of a nationwide digital security drive. The authority said the move aims to improve identity verification and strengthen the telecom system in Pakistan.

Officials urged citizens to immediately check the status of their CNICs and renew them through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) if needed. Users with outdated records may face interruption in mobile services if their identity information is not updated on time.

The PTA stated that SIM Blocking is being carried out to prevent misuse of mobile connections and ensure that every active SIM remains linked to a valid identity document. Authorities believe the process will help improve security and reduce unauthorized use of mobile numbers.

In its advisory, the telecom regulator highlighted the importance of uninterrupted communication services. It asked users to avoid delays in renewing their CNICs to prevent inconvenience later. Citizens were also advised to ensure that all SIMs registered in their names are linked to updated and accurate identity details.

The authority added that many users rely on mobile services for banking, communication, and digital transactions. Any disruption due to SIM Blocking could affect daily activities and access to important services.

The PTA further encouraged people to regularly verify their SIM ownership records and keep personal information updated in official databases. Mobile users can visit nearby NADRA offices for CNIC renewal and identity verification procedures.
