Suparco Predicts Zilhajj Moon Sighting, Eidul Adha 2026 Date in Pakistan

Pakistan’s space agency SUPARCO has released its latest forecast regarding the expected sighting of the Zilhajj moon for 1447 Hijri. The prediction is based on scientific and astronomical calculations ahead of Eid-ul-Azha 2026.

According to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, the new moon is expected to be formed on May 17, 2026, at 1:01 am. Officials said the age of the moon on the same evening is likely to be around 18 hours and 30 minutes.

SUPARCO stated that the chances of sighting the Zilhajj moon in Pakistan appear strong, especially in coastal regions. The agency explained that the time difference between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 60 minutes, which creates favorable conditions for moon visibility.

The agency also noted that clear weather and good atmospheric conditions will play an important role in the sighting process. If visibility remains favorable, the crescent moon may be easily observed in several parts of the country.

Based on these astronomical estimates, SUPARCO has forecast that the first day of Zilhajj 1447 Hijri is expected to fall on May 18, 2026, which will be a Monday.

As a result, Eid-ul-Azha 2026 is likely to be observed across Pakistan on May 27, 2026, Wednesday. Millions of Muslims in the country celebrate Eid-ul-Azha every year with religious gatherings, prayers, and animal sacrifices.

SUPARCO clarified that its predictions are based only on scientific calculations and astronomical observations. The agency emphasized that these forecasts should not be considered the final religious decision.

The official announcement regarding the sighting of the Zilhajj moon will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee is responsible for confirming the moon sighting after reviewing testimonies and reports received from different regions of the country.

Religious authorities and moon sighting experts are expected to gather for the official meeting closer to the expected date. The final decision will determine the beginning of the Islamic month and the exact date for Eid-ul-Azha in Pakistan.
