Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to ensure early preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. The focus is on improving monitoring and strengthening the early warning system.
During a meeting in Islamabad, PM Sharif directed officials to closely monitor vulnerable regions. He emphasized that timely action can reduce risks from heavy rains and flooding.
The Prime Minister held discussions with the Minister for Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik. He reviewed overall preparedness measures for the monsoon season across the country.
Officials briefed PM Sharif on ongoing efforts to improve disaster response systems. These include enhanced monitoring of flood-prone areas and faster communication of alerts.
The meeting also reviewed progress on early warning systems. These systems are designed to detect flash floods and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods in mountainous regions.
Authorities informed PM Sharif that installation work for the warning systems is moving forward. They said the goal is to reduce damage caused by extreme weather events.
Meanwhile, weather conditions remain mostly hot and dry in many parts of the country. Sindh and southern Balochistan are experiencing very high temperatures.
However, some regions are expected to receive rain. Partly cloudy weather with rain, wind, dust storms, and thunderstorms may occur in upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Potohar region.
Officials said continuous weather monitoring is being carried out. The aim is to support emergency planning during changing conditions.
Temperature readings from major cities were also shared during the briefing. Islamabad recorded 20ยฐC, Lahore 28ยฐC, and Karachi 29ยฐC.
Other cities showed varying temperatures. Peshawar recorded 23ยฐC, Quetta 18ยฐC, Gilgit 11ยฐC, and Murree 13ยฐC.
In addition, weather updates from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir indicated partly cloudy conditions in several areas.
Cities including Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramula recorded 19ยฐC. Anantnag and Shopian recorded 18ยฐC, while Jammu reached 24ยฐC.
Experts say the governmentโs focus on preparedness is important for reducing disaster risks. PM Sharif stressed that all departments must remain alert during the monsoon period.
He reiterated that strong coordination and early warning systems are essential to protect lives and property across the country.
