ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s transport sector has announced relief for businesses and consumers following the government’s decision to reduce petroleum prices across the country.
Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance (PGTA) President Malik Shehzad Awan welcomed the reduction in petrol and diesel prices and announced a 15 percent decrease in goods transport fares. The decision comes after a significant cut in fuel prices by the federal government.
Speaking on the development, Awan said the reduction in transport charges was made possible due to the sharp decline in petroleum prices. He added that lower transportation costs would benefit traders, manufacturers, and consumers by reducing the overall cost of moving goods across the country.
The PGTA chief thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for taking steps to provide relief to the public. According to him, the decision to reduce fuel prices will have a positive impact on the economy and help ease financial pressure on businesses.
Awan also expressed optimism that petroleum prices could decline further in the coming months if global market conditions remain favorable. He said additional reductions would allow the transport sector to pass on more benefits to customers.
The announcement is expected to provide support to various industries that rely heavily on road transportation. Lower Goods Transport charges may also help reduce delivery expenses and contribute to stable prices of essential commodities.
The development follows a major revision in fuel prices announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Under the new rates, petrol has been reduced by Rs74 per litre, while high-speed diesel has become cheaper by Rs67 per litre.
According to the government, the price of petrol has dropped from Rs373 per litre to Rs299 per litre. Similarly, the price of diesel has been lowered from Rs378 per litre to Rs311 per litre.
The reduction in fuel costs is being viewed as one of the largest relief measures in recent months. Industry representatives believe the cut in Goods Transport fares will help improve business activity and reduce transportation expenses nationwide.
