Pakistan Holds Key Meetings in Switzerland as US–Iran Talks Continue

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with an Iranian delegation in Bürgenstock, Switzerland on Sunday. The meeting took place during ongoing US–Iran technical-level talks.

According to reports, the Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The meeting was part of follow-up discussions linked to the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.” This agreement was recently signed as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.

The US–Iran talks are seen as an important step toward reducing tensions in the region. Pakistan has been playing a key diplomatic role in bringing both sides together.

The Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland to continue work on commitments made under the memorandum. The delegation was named “Minab 168” in memory of schoolchildren and others killed during recent attacks in southern Iran.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry welcomed the arrival of the Iranian delegation. It said the meetings are part of the implementation process of the agreement signed with the United States.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir also met with members of the US delegation. This meeting also took place on the sidelines of the Lake Lucerne Summit.

The US delegation included Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

The meeting was described as positive and friendly. Both sides exchanged views and expressed goodwill.

Officials said the US–Iran peace process remains an important focus of the summit. Pakistan’s role in supporting dialogue has gained attention as efforts continue to bring long-term stability to the region.
