Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather forecast predicting Rain along with windstorms and thunderstorms in several northern and upper regions of Pakistan on Friday. According to the department, hot and dry weather will continue across most other parts of the country, while many northern districts are expected to experience unstable weather conditions.
The PMD has warned that heavy Rain during Thursday night may increase the risk of landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas. These include upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir. Authorities have advised residents and travelers to remain cautious, especially in areas that are prone to landslides and blocked roads.
The weather department also warned that local streams and nullahs could overflow due to intense rainfall. Flash flooding is possible in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and in local nullahs across northeastern Balochistan. Residents living near these water channels have been urged to stay alert throughout the forecast period.
Urban flooding is another major concern. The PMD said heavy showers could lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Local authorities have been advised to monitor the situation closely.
Strong winds and lightning are also expected in many areas. The PMD warned that windstorms may damage weak structures, including electricity poles, billboards, and solar panel installations. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms.
In Islamabad, the weather is expected to remain hot during the daytime. However, Rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is likely during the morning and night hours.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-windstorms and thundershowers are forecast for Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Chitral, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Hangu, Kurram, and Waziristan. Other districts are expected to remain mainly hot and dry.
Punjab is also expected to receive rainfall in several districts. These include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Khushab, Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, and Narowal. Evening and night rain-windstorms are also likely in Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Most other districts of Punjab are expected to experience hot and dry weather.
Sindh will continue to face very hot and humid conditions. Coastal areas may remain partly cloudy. The PMD expects thunderstorms with gusty winds in Shahdadkot, Dadu, Sukkur, and Jacobabad during the evening and night.
Most parts of Balochistan are also likely to remain very hot and dry. However, Zhob, Sherani, Naseerabad, Sibi, Musakhel, Barkhan, and Khuzdar may receive rain-windstorms and thundershowers later in the day.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to experience partly cloudy weather with rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of Kashmir.
During the last 24 hours, several areas of Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan received rain-windstorms and thunderstorms. Murree recorded the highest rainfall at 72 millimetres. Islamabad Airport received 48mm, Golra recorded 39mm, and Lahore’s Nishtar Town measured 38mm.
