LAHORE: Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has extended the deadline for installing QR panic buttons in public transport vehicles, online cabs, and rickshaws until July 10. The decision gives transport operators more time to comply with the city’s safety requirements.
The extension is part of Lahore Traffic Police’s ongoing campaign to improve passenger safety and ensure all commercial transport vehicles are equipped with the required QR panic button system.
According to traffic officials, the installation of QR panic buttons is mandatory for public transport vehicles, online cab services, and rickshaws operating in the city. Authorities have directed all transport operators to complete the installation process before the revised deadline.
The CTO said the extension was granted after requests from transport stakeholders. Rickshaw unions, online cab companies, and public transport operators have been urged to use the additional time to meet the legal requirements.
Officials warned that strict action will begin after July 10 against vehicles operating without the required panic button system. Those failing to comply may face penalties under traffic regulations.
According to Lahore Traffic Police, more than 12,000 online cabs and rickshaws have already been fitted with the required QR panic button system. The authority said the installation campaign has made significant progress across the city.
To speed up the process, Lahore Traffic Police has deployed special teams in 45 sectors. These teams are assisting transport operators with the installation procedure and helping them complete the required formalities.
The police believe the QR panic button system will improve passenger security by providing a faster way to report emergencies. The technology is part of broader efforts to strengthen safety measures in public transport.
CTO Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi also announced the establishment of four new licensing centers in Lahore. The new facilities were set up following requests from rickshaw unions.
The additional centers are expected to reduce waiting times and make registration, licensing, and related procedures more convenient for drivers and vehicle owners.
Traffic officials said transporters should not wait until the final day to complete the installation process. Early compliance will help avoid delays and reduce pressure on registration centers.
The Lahore Traffic Police have continued awareness campaigns to inform drivers and transport companies about the new safety requirements. Officials say cooperation from transport operators is essential for the successful implementation of the system.
Authorities have once again urged all concerned stakeholders to complete the installation before the deadline expires. They emphasized that no further extension has been announced.
After July 10, enforcement teams will begin checking vehicles across the city. Officials said action will be taken against any public transport vehicle, online cab, or rickshaw operating without the mandatory QR panic button system.
