President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have paid tribute to the 22 martyrs who lost their lives during the events of July 13, 1931, in Srinagar.
The leaders issued separate messages on Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir, also known as Kashmir Martyrs’ Day. They honored the sacrifices of those who were killed after Dogra forces opened fire during a public gathering in Srinagar.
They said the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and continue to remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs. The leaders described the day as an important reminder of the long-standing Kashmir dispute and the importance of a peaceful solution.
President Asif Ali Zardari urged the international community to play an active role in supporting efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue. He said the dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
The president emphasized the need for dialogue and international cooperation. He said a peaceful resolution would contribute to regional stability and lasting peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the martyrs. He said the sacrifices made on July 13, 1931, remain an important part of the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
The prime minister stated that lasting peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, diplomatic, and moral support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that Pakistan would continue raising the issue at international forums while supporting efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also remembered the 22 martyrs who lost their lives in 1931. In his message, he described their sacrifice as an important chapter in the history of the region.
Naqvi said the martyrs showed courage while facing bullets during the call to prayer. He referred to their sacrifice as a symbol of determination and commitment.
He further stated that July 13, 1931, marked the beginning of resistance against oppression. According to his statement, the events of that day continue to hold historical significance.
The interior minister also expressed concern over the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He said the suppression of religious beliefs, identity, opinions, and peaceful resistance undermines human dignity.
Naqvi said that calls for freedom cannot be silenced through force, imprisonment, or restrictions. He added that the message of the martyrs continues to inspire future generations.
He described Kashmir Martyrs’ Day as an occasion to renew commitment to the rights of the Kashmiri people. He also urged the international community and human rights organizations to take notice of the situation in the region.

The leaders concluded their messages by reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expressing hope for a peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute.
