The United States has carried out a new round of attacks against Iranian military targets, further increasing tensions across the Middle East. The latest attacks were announced by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said the operation aimed to reduce Iranโs ability to threaten international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to an official CENTCOM statement, the military operation took place on July 12. The strikes targeted dozens of locations using precision-guided weapons. US officials said the operation focused on military assets linked to Iranโs offensive capabilities.
The attacks targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar installations, missile launch facilities, drone infrastructure, and small military boats. CENTCOM said the operation involved fighter aircraft, naval vessels, one-way attack drones, and one-way attack sea drones.
US officials stated that the operation was designed to protect international maritime traffic. They said commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz continue to face security risks because of ongoing regional tensions.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important shipping routes. A significant share of global oil exports passes through the narrow waterway every day. Any disruption in the area can quickly affect global energy markets.
CENTCOM said US forces remain fully prepared to ensure freedom of navigation. The command accused Iran of continuing aggressive actions, including threats and harassment directed at commercial shipping operating in international waters.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for strikes targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain. Iranian authorities described those operations as part of their response to recent US military action.
Bahrain also activated missile warning sirens for the second time following reports of Iranian retaliatory strikes. Authorities closely monitored the situation as regional security concerns continued to grow.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf also criticized Washington over the recent developments. In a statement shared on X, he accused the United States of violating a Pakistan-mediated Memorandum of Understanding intended to reduce tensions.
According to Ghalibaf, the latest US attacks breached the ceasefire framework that had been discussed between both sides. He argued that Washington failed to honor its commitments under the reported agreement.
The Iranian leader also referred to the Strait of Hormuz during his statement. He claimed the understanding recognized Iranโs role in determining conditions for reopening the strategic waterway after the conflict.
Ghalibaf warned that Iran would no longer accept what he described as one-sided agreements. He stressed that all parties should fulfill their commitments if they want lasting stability in the region.
So far, US officials have maintained that the military operation was necessary to protect international shipping. Washington has repeatedly stated that safeguarding commercial navigation remains one of its key priorities.
The latest attacks come after several weeks of heightened military activity between the United States and Iran. Both countries have exchanged accusations over ceasefire violations and military operations in the Gulf region.
Security experts continue to monitor the situation closely. They warn that any further escalation could increase risks for regional stability and international trade. Developments in the Strait of Hormuz are also expected to remain under close global attention due to their impact on energy supplies and shipping routes.
