Islamabad Police have registered a case against the owner and staff of a private rehab centre after the death of a young patient. Authorities have launched an investigation into allegations that the victim died after being subjected to torture during treatment.
According to police officials, the victim, Malik Zohaib, was admitted to Mind Heal Rehab Centre in Islamabad on June 18, 2026. He was receiving treatment at the private rehab centre when the incident reportedly occurred.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that Zohaibโs family was not allowed to meet him after his admission. They claimed the rehab centre only shared a video update once every week instead of allowing in-person visits.
According to the family, they received a phone call from the centre at around 10 a.m. on July 9. They were informed that Zohaibโs condition had suddenly worsened and were asked to come to the facility immediately.
However, when the family reached the centre, they found that Zohaib had already died. They also alleged that no representative of the facility was present to explain the situation.
The family later returned to the building but found the centre locked. According to the FIR, the entire staff had reportedly left the premises before their arrival.
Zohaibโs body was later located at HBS General Hospital on Lehtrar Road. Hospital officials told police that an unidentified man brought the body to the hospital. He introduced himself as the victimโs cousin before leaving the premises without providing further details.
The victimโs family alleged that there were visible injury marks and signs of torture on Zohaibโs body. They believe he may have been subjected to severe physical abuse while staying at the rehabilitation facility.
The FIR also states that the management informed the family that Zohaib had contracted dengue fever. However, the family said they were shocked to discover that he had already died before they reached the facility.
Following the incident, the staff of Mind Heal Rehab Centre allegedly closed the facility and fled. Police said the centreโs owner, Dr. Hamza, has also reportedly gone into hiding.
A case has been registered at Shahzad Town Police Station against the owner and staff of the rehab centre. Investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements as part of the inquiry.
Police said the exact cause of death will be determined after the investigation and relevant medical examinations. Authorities are also working to locate those named in the case.
