Police in Peshawar have arrested a school owner following a deadly Roof Collapse that killed 30 children and a female teacher. Investigators are examining alleged construction defects and earlier complaints about the building’s safety.
The incident occurred on October 15, 2026, during school hours in Dir Colony, Peshawar. The collapse also injured 52 people, according to the reported details. The tragedy has raised serious concerns about school building safety and management responsibilities.
School Owner Arrested Over Construction Defects
An investigation officer confirmed that police arrested Khan Muhammad over allegations involving the use of poor-quality construction materials. The school’s owners, shareholders, and construction contractor have also been named in the First Information Report (FIR).
Police are searching for the remaining suspects as the investigation continues. Authorities are examining whether construction defects contributed to the building’s collapse and the resulting deaths.
The case was registered on behalf of the state at Agha Mir Jani Shah police station. The FIR includes Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which concerns deaths caused without an intention to kill.
Earlier Safety Complaints Under Investigation
According to the FIR, school management allegedly failed to address complaints about deteriorating walls and roofs. Children had also reportedly raised concerns about the condition of the premises.
The report describes the building as dilapidated and unsuitable for use as a school. Investigators are examining whether these warnings were ignored before the fatal incident.
The FIR states that the school building was constructed after a 16-marla property belonging to Waheed and Javed was leased in 2024. Investigators are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the property’s use and the building’s construction.
School Owner Previously Blamed Rainfall
Khan Muhammad had previously attributed the collapse to several days of rainfall. However, investigators are also examining allegations about construction quality and the reported failure to address safety concerns.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances that led to the Roof Collapse and determine whether negligence contributed to the tragedy. The allegations against the named individuals remain subject to investigation.
Families Demand Accountability
The deaths of 30 children and a female teacher have left families seeking answers. Relatives of the victims have demanded a thorough investigation and accountability for those found responsible.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of school buildings and the need to address structural problems before they become life-threatening.
As the investigation proceeds, police are pursuing the remaining suspects and examining the allegations detailed in the FIR. The findings may help establish whether construction defects or ignored safety complaints played a role in the disaster.
