ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has introduced a new cabin crew uniform collection designed by renowned Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, widely known as HSY.

The new collection combines Pakistan’s cultural heritage with modern fashion and practical design. It aims to improve the airline’s visual identity while ensuring comfort and confidence for cabin crew members.

The launch represents another step in PIA’s ongoing transformation under its consortium-led new management. The airline aims to create a more modern onboard experience while maintaining its traditional image of Pakistani hospitality.

PIA Introduces a Modern Uniform Collection

The newly designed uniforms focus on comfort, durability, and contemporary style. The collection features breathable fabrics and carefully tailored designs suitable for long-haul flights.

The outfits also allow cabin crew members to move comfortably while performing their duties. Their colours and details reflect Pakistan’s cultural craftsmanship while maintaining a professional appearance.

HSY said designing uniforms for Pakistan’s national airline was an opportunity to represent the country’s identity. He wanted the collection to reflect national pride, cultural traditions, and modern fashion.

The designer also emphasised the importance of making crew members feel confident and comfortable. According to him, the uniforms should represent Pakistani hospitality at airports around the world.

A Long History of Fashion at PIA

PIA has maintained a connection between aviation and fashion for decades. Its uniform history includes contributions from several internationally recognised designers.

In 1966, French fashion designer Pierre Cardin created a distinctive A-line tunic and hood for the airline. The design became an important part of PIA’s fashion legacy.

During the 1970s, British designer Sir Hardy Amies also contributed to the airline’s uniform designs. He was known for his refined tailoring and work as a royal couturier.

More recently, Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari created uniform designs that remained part of the airline’s identity for approximately 12 years.

HSY now joins this distinguished group of designers. His latest collection combines Pakistani textile traditions with international tailoring techniques.

Competitive Fashion Showcase Selected the Design

The final uniform collection emerged from a collaborative fashion showcase held in Karachi. Ten leading Pakistani fashion designers presented their concepts before a jury of fashion experts and industry representatives.

The selection process provided an opportunity to explore different creative approaches. The final design reflects a combination of contemporary fashion, cultural identity, and practical requirements.

The collection was developed with the needs of cabin crew members in mind. Its focus on ergonomic movement and durable materials makes functionality an important part of the design.

New PIA Uniforms to Debut on October 31

PIA has announced that the new uniforms will officially debut on October 31, 2026. The launch will take place aboard the airline’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad.

According to the airline’s spokesperson, passengers will soon see the new collection in service. The debut will introduce a refreshed appearance for the national carrier on an international route.

The launch combines the airline’s fashion heritage with its plans for a modern identity. It also highlights the role of Pakistani designers in representing the country’s creative industry internationally.
