UAE Issues Red Alert Following Heavy Rainfall

The residents of Dubai and Abu Dhabi woke up to the unusual sounds of thunder, lightning, and heavy rainfall early on Monday morning, creating a dramatic and picturesque scene across parts of the Emirates. In Abu Dhabi, the weather was further accentuated by hail, adding to the scenic beauty before dawn. Moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah until 9:30 am.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a red and amber alert, warning of continued wet weather until 6 pm. These weather conditions are attributed to an upper air depression compounded by the presence of a cold air mass and westerly air currents. In certain areas of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, heavy rainfall resulted in the formation of rainwater streams in the valleys.

A senior meteorologist at the NCM informed Gulf News that rain was observed across the UAE, with ongoing rainfall in eastern parts such as Hatta and the far north of Ras Al Khaimah. Convective clouds were also seen over Abu Dhabi and Dubai. However, the intensity of rain is expected to decrease by noon, although more convective clouds are anticipated to form.

Following the heavy rainfall, both the private and public sectors have been advised to work from home, and schools have been encouraged to conduct online classes. The UAE Cabinet has mandated remote work for all federal government employees on Monday. Similar directives have been issued for government entities in Dubai, federal higher education institutions, and private schools.

Furthermore, temperatures are forecasted to drop by 2 to 4°C across most of the country, with high temperatures ranging from 20 to 25°C in coastal regions and lows between 15 to 19°C. These weather conditions mark a significant departure from the typical weather patterns in the region and have prompted precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
