The district administration has announced a Rs5 increase in the Roti Prices, as per a notification from the deputy commissioner. The residents of Peshawar are experiencing another financial setback as inflation impacts everyday goods.
A 125-gram roti will now cost Rs20, up from Rs15 for a 120-gram roti. This change is effective immediately across the district.

The administration stated that the price hike was based on recommendations from the Price Review Committee, which attributed the increase to the rising cost of flour. The cost of an 80kg bag of flour has jumped from Rs7,000 to Rs8,900, necessitating the price adjustment.
Despite the increase, local naanbai (bread makers) express concerns about continuing to operate at a loss due to high ingredient costs. One tandoor owner noted that even with the higher bread prices, they are still losing money, underscoring the sector’s ongoing struggles.
Additionally, Peshawar recently saw a surge in live chicken prices to Rs440 per kilogram, further straining citizens’ budgets and making chicken, once a staple food, less affordable.
Shopkeepers reported a significant drop in sales, with only hotel owners buying chicken in bulk. A local shopkeeper mentioned that ordinary citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to purchase chicken due to inflation.
