After weeks of anticipation, the upper parts of the country have finally been blessed with much-needed rain and snowfall, dropping temperatures to below freezing in several regions. This weather event has provided a significant respite after a prolonged dry spell, with rainfall recorded across most upper and central parts, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Islamabadโs Golra area saw the highest rainfall at 70mm, followed by several cities including Narowal, Gujranwala, Murree, and Lahore. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dir Bala experienced 56mm of rain, while tourist hotspots like Murree were blanketed by an unexpected snowfall, much to the delight of tourists. However, the snowfall caught local administrations by surprise, leading to a flurry of activity to clear roads and maintain order.

The rainfall in Rawalpindi, after four months of dry weather, was a welcome sight. The downpour alleviated concerns of a potential water shortage, especially as water levels in key dams such as Rawal, Khanpur, and Simly rose. Agricultural experts anticipate a boost to the regionโs crops, particularly wheat, thanks to this timely rain.
In hilly regions like Kaghan Valley, heavy snowfall created picturesque winter landscapes, drawing tourists in large numbers. Authorities worked swiftly to clear roads and restore access to popular tourist destinations. Snowfall also reached up to one foot in parts of Naran and Shogran, prompting locals to prepare for extended cold spells.
While the weather has brought joy to many, it also posed challenges. In Swabi district, heavy rainfall caused the collapse of a house roof, injuring a mother and her two sons. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more snow and rain in the coming days, with temperatures expected to remain extremely cold across most of the country.
