The government is set to launch the third phase of its privatisation drive for public schools following Eidul Fitr. In this phase, all government schools with an enrolment of 100 or fewer students will be sold to private owners. The decision is aimed at addressing the issue of underutilised school resources and reducing the financial burden on the state.
The Ministry of Education has already instructed District Education Officers and Heads of District Education Authorities from all 43 districts across the province to compile and submit a list of schools that meet the enrolment criteria. This data will determine which schools will be included in the privatisation process.

Many of the schools set to be privatised are located in rural areas, but a number of urban schools, especially those with low student enrolment, are also expected to be part of the list. The majority of these are primary schools in cities where student numbers have dwindled over the years.
The privatisation initiative is part of a broader strategy by the government to streamline the education sector and allocate resources more efficiently. The immediate goal is to cut costs by transferring underperforming schools to private ownership, while ensuring the availability of education in areas with greater demand.
