A protest by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Karachi on Monday threw parts of the city into chaos, with roadblocks and traffic jams causing significant disruption just ahead of iftar. The protest, held at Fawara Chowk near the Sindh Assembly building, called for the release of BYC leaders, including Dr. Mahrung Baloch.
In response, law enforcement blocked multiple roads, leading to paralyzed traffic in the surrounding areas. Traffic police struggled to manage the situation, and many commuters were caught in long gridlocks, particularly near the Karachi Press Club and Fawara Chowk. Several citizens were forced to break their fast on the streets as traffic ground to a halt, drawing public ire over the authorities’ repeated failure to control such situations effectively.

Amid the protest, police detained several individuals, including a female BYC leader, for allegedly violating Section 144. The arrests sparked further unrest, as protesters organized rallies in response.
The traffic bottleneck worsened with the closure of key roads, including Deen Muhammad Wafai Road and Sarwar Shaheed Road, for “security reasons.” This caused slowdowns on major arteries such as II Chundrigar Road, Shaheen Complex Chowk, and Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, further exacerbating the cityโs traffic woes.
