At least 79 people were killed and 155 injured after the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed during a high-profile concert. Emergency crews worked tirelessly after dark, searching for survivors beneath the debris.
The tragedy unfolded during a concert by renowned merengue artist Rubby Perez, who was among those confirmed dead. The venue was packed with prominent figures, including politicians and athletes, when the collapse occurred.

Authorities reported that former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco also lost their lives in the disaster. Dotel, who had a 17-year career in Major League Baseball, was pulled from the rubble but died en route to the hospital. Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province and sister of MLB star Nelson Cruz, was also among the victims.
Families of those still missing gathered near the site, anxiously awaiting news. Pedro Martinez, another former MLB pitcher, posted an emotional message on Instagram, revealing that some of his relatives remained unaccounted for.
The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. In the meantime, officials have deployed additional heavy equipment and emergency personnel to assist in rescue operations, while providing psychological support to grieving families.
