Singapore will head to the polls on May 3, 2025, in what will be the first general election under Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s leadership. The upcoming vote will test the mandate of Wong’s fourth-generation team following the departure of former leader Lee Hsien Loong.
Parliament was officially dissolved this week on Wong’s advice, triggering a formal election process. Nomination Day is scheduled for April 23, with a nine-day campaign to follow. May 2 will serve as a cooling-off period ahead of voting.

This will be the 14th general election since Singapore’s independence, and 97 parliamentary seats will be contested. While the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) remains heavily favored, it faces a more competitive landscape than in past decades.
Wong is seeking public support amid mounting concerns over inflation, housing affordability, healthcare demands, and economic uncertainty. A recent populist budget offering tax breaks and handouts has been seen as a move to win voter confidence.
