Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has initiated legal proceedings against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), alleging that the board has failed to fulfill financial commitments following his resignation in December 2024. Gillespie claims he is owed payments for key victories during his tenure, including a historic Test series win over England and an ODI triumph against Australia.
In response, the PCB has categorically denied any outstanding dues, accusing Gillespie of breaching his contract by resigning without serving the mandatory four-month notice period. “The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues,” read a statement posted on the board’s official website.

Sources close to Gillespie say the former coach has already escalated the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), although it remains uncertain whether the ICC holds jurisdiction to adjudicate such disputes. Gillespie maintains that the PCB failed to honor written financial assurances and did not respond adequately to his concerns.
Tensions between the two parties reportedly began months before the resignation. Gillespie was removed from the selection panel in October 2024, and his role was reduced to that of a “matchday strategist.” His exit followed the non-renewal of assistant coach Tim Nielsen’s contract, which Gillespie claimed was another attempt to sideline him.
The legal dispute has surfaced just as the PCB begins its search for a new head coach, with interim coach Aaqib Javed confirmed to be stepping down after a disappointing run.
