Concerns are mounting over a looming fuel shortage in Sindh and Punjab as ongoing protests against a controversial federal canal project disrupt vital transportation routes. According to a report, over 800 oil tankers have been stranded in Larkana and Sukkur due to road blockages caused by the demonstrations.
The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has sounded the alarm, warning that if the impasse continues, multiple cities in interior Sindh and southern Punjab could face petrol and diesel shortages. The council has written to the Chief Secretary of Sindh, urging immediate government action to restore supply chains and avoid a broader crisis.

Protesters, led by local groups opposed to the canal scheme, have shut down key arteries used for fuel distribution. While local leaders have encouraged peaceful protest, they also urged demonstrators to consider the hardships caused to the public by the transport standstill.
The economic impact of the protest is already being felt, with reports indicating that goods worth millions are at risk due to halted movement at the Sindh-Punjab border. Meanwhile, the federal government last week announced that petroleum prices will remain unchanged for the next 15 days.
