The Punjab Transport Department has finalized the feasibility study for Lahore’s highly anticipated Yellow Line Electric Transit Project, an initiative launched on the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister to provide eco-friendly and affordable transportation for the city’s expanding population.
As per official details, the Yellow Line will cover a 24-kilometre route from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura. Once launched, it is expected to cater to around 130,000 passengers daily, alleviating traffic congestion and offering a reliable public transit solution.

The project is estimated to cost PKR 80 billion, with a proposed construction timeline from September 2025 to June 2026. The feasibility report has been sent to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for final approval.
In addition to the Yellow Line, development is progressing on Lahore’s Blue Line and Purple Line mass transit systems—part of a broader strategy to establish a comprehensive, low-emission urban rail network aimed at reducing pollution and improving mobility.
The Yellow Line will be equipped with 20 electric train sets, which will be imported from China following the necessary approvals from the Punjab Cabinet and ECNEC (Executive Committee of the National Economic Council).
