The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today in Islamabad to attempt the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.
According to SUPARCO, the likelihood of spotting the moon on May 27 is very low, as the moon will only be 11 hours old at sunset.
SUPARCO forecasts that the first day of Zilhaj will likely fall on May 29, which would mean Eidul Azha will be observed across Pakistan on June 7.

Meanwhile, moon sighting efforts are also underway in Saudi Arabia today. A Saudi astronomer has expressed optimism about the possibility of sighting the moon, and the Astronomical Center of the United Arab Emirates has similarly indicated a chance of moon visibility.
In the UAE, Eidul Azha could be celebrated a day earlier, on June 6.
For Pakistan, if the moon is sighted on the evening of May 27, Zilhaj will begin on May 28, making Eidul Azha fall on June 6. However, if the moon is not visible that evening, the month will start on May 29, with Eidul Azha observed on June 7.
The moon sighting is essential for determining the start of the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar, which includes the Hajj pilgrimage and the celebration of Eidul Azha by Muslims worldwide.
