FAISALABAD – July 18, 2025: Cybercrime authorities have arrested former Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) chairman, Tahseen Awan, in connection with an international online fraud case.
According to the cybercrime agency, Awan was involved in a large-scale racket operating with the help of foreign nationals, including a Chinese gang. The agency stated that this is the eighth FIR filed against him. He had already obtained interim bail in seven earlier cases.
Authorities say Awan faked documents and submitted forged data to national security institutions. He allegedly created records of fake companies and signed agreements under false identities.
Officials claim he provided fake passports and incorrect information about foreign nationals. These activities posed serious threats to national security, according to investigators.
The cybercrime agency revealed that Awan helped hide the presence of 62 out of 72 previously arrested foreign nationals. In addition, nine foreign names listed in official records were found to be forged.
Assistant Director Arshad Ali has been assigned as the lead investigator. Awan is set to appear before a local court today, where the agency will request his physical remand for further questioning.
Earlier this month, on July 8, law enforcement officials raided a factory linked to Awan. During the raid, over 80 Pakistani nationals and more than 70 foreigners were taken into custody. The operation was connected to ongoing investigations into fraudulent online activities and illegal foreign operations.
Officials believe that the scam involved creating fake business agreements, misusing national data, and using foreigners to bypass legal procedures.
The cybercrime agency is now expanding the investigation to track others involved in the network. More arrests are expected in the coming days.
The case highlights growing concerns about online scams and the involvement of international actors in illicit operations. Authorities have vowed to take strict action against those who misuse national systems for personal gain.
The cybercrime unit has urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious digital activity. Further updates are expected after Awan’s court appearance.
