80000 kg Expired Meat Seized in Sheikhupura Raid

Authorities have seized 80,000 kg expired meat from a cold storage facility in the Ferozewala area of Sheikhupura. The raid was carried out by Punjab’s food safety teams under the leadership of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, Salma Butt.

Officials discovered the meat stored in sacks and reported a strong, foul smell emanating from the facility. The meat was unhygienic and considered harmful for human consumption. Authorities believe it was intended for distribution to well-known food chains, supermarkets, and major restaurants.

During the raid, one suspect was arrested, and a case has been registered. The cold storage unit was found operating in extremely poor sanitary conditions. It was also in violation of food safety standards and government-issued SOPs.

Salma Butt confirmed that the operation was part of a broader crackdown against illegal food practices. She stated that no one will be allowed to risk public health for profit. “Strict action will be taken against all those involved,” she said during her visit to the site.

She also warned that more inspections are expected across Punjab in the coming days. The goal is to protect consumers from contaminated and dangerous food items. Authorities are urging food suppliers to follow health guidelines or face legal consequences.

Food safety officials say the seized meat was likely being stored for redistribution to large markets and restaurants across the region. Investigations are now underway to trace the supply network and identify others involved.

Residents have expressed concern over the possibility of expired meat reaching their plates. Many are now demanding stricter regulations and regular inspections of food suppliers.

This incident contributes to growing concerns over food quality and safety in Pakistan. Health experts continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining food hygiene and proper storage to prevent the spread of disease.

The Punjab government has pledged to continue these actions to ensure public safety. The raid in Sheikhupura serves as a reminder of the dangers of ignoring food safety rules and the consequences that follow.
