Pakistan have reached the final of the World Games squash plate event after Noor Zaman’s strong performance in Chengdu, China. Zaman beat his Japanese opponent 3-1 in the semifinal, securing Pakistan’s spot in the title match.
The World Games squash competition is taking place from August 8 to 12, 2025, at the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre. The venue’s Public Fitness Gymnasium is hosting both men’s and women’s singles events, each featuring 32 players from 24 countries. The tournament uses a single-elimination format, with squash being a regular feature at the World Games since 1997, except in 2001.
The plate event runs alongside the main draw. It gives players who lose early in the main competition another chance to compete and gain valuable match experience. For Pakistan, this has been an opportunity to shine on the international stage.
Nasir Iqbal, also representing Pakistan, entered the plate event after a first-round loss in the main draw. He made a strong comeback, defeating Austria’s Daniel Lutz in straight games and earning praise for his resilience.
This year marks Pakistan’s debut in squash at the World Games. With both Iqbal and Zaman representing the country, the event has become a milestone in Pakistan’s squash journey.
Fans and officials are hopeful that Noor Zaman can carry his winning momentum into the final and claim the plate event title. The achievement highlights Pakistan’s potential in World Games squash and the depth of talent still emerging from the country’s squash tradition.
The final promises to be a competitive clash as Zaman aims to secure Pakistan’s first-ever plate event victory in this prestigious international tournament.
