Stage actress and dancer Samar Rana has been arrested in Lahore for her alleged involvement in the assault and exploitation of a 14-year-old domestic worker. Police have also accused her of facilitating the gang rape of the minor at her residence.
According to officials, a case was registered at Nawab Town Police Station, nominating five men who allegedly assaulted the child.
Investigators revealed that Rana not only failed to protect the girl but also subjected her to threats and physical violence. Authorities further disclosed that videos of the assault were recorded, raising fears of possible misuse or circulation online.
A Lahore police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, stating, โThe actress is in custody, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other accused.โ The incident has once again brought attention to the widespread risks faced by child domestic workers in Pakistan.
This is not the first time Samar Rana has faced legal trouble. She has a history of cases filed against her, including fraud and other criminal charges. A few years ago, she was arrested in Lahore on fraud allegations involving 2.6 million rupees.
Reports at the time suggested that she refused to vacate a property despite receiving payment in a disputed deal. Her bail in that case was initially canceled by the Lahore High Court but later restored.
The latest case has sparked public outrage, with many calling for stronger laws and strict enforcement to protect vulnerable children. Human rights activists have urged authorities to ensure that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and that those found guilty face full legal consequences.
With multiple criminal cases linked to her past, Samar Ranaโs arrest has once again raised questions about accountability and the protection of minors in domestic work across the country.
