MALAKAND: A tragic incident unfolded in Kunda village of Batkhela, where a man killed his estranged wife and four members of her family, police said Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Mansoor, reportedly stormed into the house of his in-laws and opened fire indiscriminately. The shooting left five people dead, including his young wife. After the attack, the accused fled the scene.
Rescue 1122 officials rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to DHQ Hospital Batkhela.
Victims Identified
Police confirmed that the victims included Mansoor’s 18-year-old estranged wife, Nazish. Others killed were her father Shah Zameen Gul, aged 58; grandmother Meher Zamina, aged 75; grandfather Saeed Gul, aged 85; and relative Ameer Zadgai, aged 55.
Authorities revealed that Mansoor and Nazish had married only a few months ago. However, marital disputes quickly arose. Following differences, the estranged wife returned to her parents’ home, where the fatal attack later took place.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. A search operation has been launched to trace and arrest the suspect, who remains on the run.
Local residents expressed shock over the brutal killings, highlighting concerns about rising family disputes turning into violent tragedies. Authorities have assured the public that the accused will be apprehended soon and brought to justice.
This incident adds to the growing number of domestic violence cases reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months. Police and community leaders have urged families to seek mediation and counseling in disputes to prevent such devastating outcomes.
