SUKKUR: A petition has been filed in the SHC against the disposal of untreated industrial wastewater into land areas in Ghotki district. The case raises concerns about environmental pollution and its impact on public health.
The petition was submitted by the President of the District Bar Association Ghotki, Shahnawaz Waseer. He urged the SHC to take notice of the alleged release of untreated industrial waste by factories operating in the region.
According to the petition, industrial wastewater is being discharged directly onto land without proper treatment. It claims that this practice has contaminated underground water sources and made them unsafe for human use.
The petitioner stated that groundwater in several areas has changed color, turning yellow and green. He argued that the pollution has affected water quality and increased health risks for local residents.
The petition further claims that people are being exposed to harmful substances through the contaminated water. It warns that toxic elements in the water may contribute to serious illnesses and other health complications. Concerns have also been raised about the long-term effects of continued exposure to polluted groundwater.
The District Bar Association requested the SHC to direct factories to install and operate proper wastewater treatment systems. The petition argues that industrial waste should be treated before being released into the environment.
Environmental experts have long warned about the dangers of untreated industrial wastewater. Such waste can contain harmful pollutants, including toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and other hazardous substances. When released into the environment, these materials can contaminate soil and water resources.
Untreated wastewater can also damage ecosystems by affecting plants, animals, and aquatic life. Polluted water sources may become unsafe for agriculture, livestock, and household use. This can create serious challenges for communities that rely on groundwater for their daily needs.
The petition highlights the growing concern over industrial pollution in the region. Residents have reportedly raised complaints about water quality and the potential health effects linked to contamination.
The SHC is expected to review the petition and consider the concerns raised by the District Bar Association. Any future court directives could have significant implications for environmental protection and industrial waste management practices in the area.
