Nepra Cuts Power Tariffs by Rs1.79 Per Unit for July Adjustment

Nepra Cuts Power Tariffs by Rs1.79 Per Unit for July Adjustment

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for consumers across Pakistan.

According to the official notification, Nepra approved a decrease of Rs1.79 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for July 2025. The decision comes as part of efforts to ease the burden on consumers amid rising inflation.

The reduction will be applicable to all DISCOs and K-Electric customers, with the exception of lifeline users, prepaid consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations. Nepra confirmed that the relief will reflect in September electricity bills.

Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had submitted a request to reduce tariffs by Rs1.69 per unit for July’s adjustment. After reviewing the proposal, Nepra approved a slightly larger cut, providing additional relief to consumers.

Relief Worth Rs24.5 Billion

The regulatory body stated that the reduction in fuel charges adjustment would give an estimated relief of Rs24.5 billion to consumers nationwide. This move is expected to help households and businesses manage electricity costs more effectively during difficult economic conditions.

Energy experts noted that the decline in international fuel prices contributed to the adjustment. Nepra regularly reviews FCA requests submitted by CPPA to ensure transparency and fair pricing for consumers.

What This Means for Consumers

For most households, the reduction means lower electricity bills in the coming month. However, lifeline users—who already benefit from subsidized rates—along with prepaid customers and EV charging stations, will not be included in this adjustment.

Nepra emphasized its commitment to protecting consumer interests while ensuring the sustainability of Pakistan’s power sector. The authority continues to monitor energy costs closely and adjust tariffs accordingly.
