Islamabad: A new book on Pakistan-India relations, authored by former diplomat Aizaz Chaudhry, was launched in Islamabad, offering a detailed analysis of decades-long disputes between the two neighbors.
Titled Pakistan-India Relations – Fractured Past, Uncertain Future, the book explores unresolved issues, including Kashmir, terrorism, and regional dominance. Aizaz Chaudhry highlighted India’s refusal to address the Kashmir dispute and its politicization of terrorism, questioning whether broader geopolitical dynamics also shape the bilateral relationship.
Information Minister Ata Tarar, chief guest at the launch, praised the book and urged scholars to study Aizaz Chaudhry’s work for a better understanding of South Asian tensions. He stressed that peace in the region requires mutual respect and sovereignty among all nations. Tarar also recalled Pakistan’s firm response to India’s military aggression in May 2025 as an example of defending national interests while seeking dialogue.
Experts at the event emphasized the importance of the book. Ambassador Jauhar Saleem of the Institute of Regional Studies urged India to abandon zero-sum thinking and adopt peaceful coexistence strategies. Engineer Khurram Dastgir noted that India’s Hindutva-driven policies have intensified hostility, while Murtaza Solangi highlighted the persistent threat posed by India’s regional ambitions.
Military and academic perspectives also praised the book. Lt. Gen. Aamer Riaz (retd) applauded its analysis of stalled progress on Kashmir, while Professor Arshi Saleem Hashmi highlighted the documentation of past agreements and confidence-building measures that could guide future cooperation if India rethinks its approach.
The launch, jointly organized by the Institute of Regional Studies and Sanober Institute Islamabad, was broadcast live and shared widely on social media. By combining historical review with strategic insights, Pakistan-India Relations – Fractured Past, Uncertain Future provides scholars, policymakers, and observers with a valuable resource on South Asia’s evolving geopolitical landscape.
