A fresh storm has hit the Asia Cup 2025 as calls grow for India to boycott their high-profile clash against Pakistan. The debate comes in the wake of a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people. Many believe it is not the right time to play cricket with Pakistan.
Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has openly said he will boycott the tournament. He questioned the logic of competing against Pakistan while families still mourn the victims of the attack.
Political leaders have also raised their voices. Some stated that their conscience will not allow them to watch the India-Pakistan game under such circumstances. The Samajwadi Party went as far as calling the match βshameless,β accusing organizers of putting money over national pride.
In response, the Indian cricket board explained that it is following the governmentβs policy. Officials said India is bound to participate in multilateral tournaments even if bilateral ties remain tense.
A Public Interest Litigation was also filed in the Supreme Court, demanding the match be canceled. However, the Court refused an urgent hearing, effectively clearing the way for the game to continue.
As the much-anticipated clash on September 14 approaches, emotions are running high. The Asia Cup was designed as a celebration of cricket, but for many in India, facing Pakistan so soon after the attack feels deeply unsettling.
