Several Quaid-i-Azam University students have been sent show-cause letters for celebrating Holi without authorization. This incident occurred in the aftermath of a contentious letter from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), which initially criticized the celebration but was later withdrawn due to public outrage.
According to the official notification, the students were accused of arranging and participating in the festival on June 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. without permission from the institution or its event management committee. Despite the university’s security staff’s warnings, the students continued to play loud music, causing discomfort to others.

Their activities were considered to have offended public morals, potentially insulted or physically hurt other university inhabitants, weakened the university’s authority, and disturbed its operation.
The notice required the students to come before the disciplinary committee on July 18 at 12:30 p.m. and submit a written answer. Failure to appear would force the committee to make a conclusion based on the evidence and records available.
Fines, loss of dormitory rooms and financial advantages, suspension of admission, temporary restrictions from entering the premises, cancellation of examination results, suspension for a particular period, and even expulsion were all included in the warning.
