Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has begun a busy official schedule in Washington DC to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The visit aims to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with global financial institutions and attract new investment opportunities.
The finance minister started his meetings on Monday by holding talks with Riccardo Puliti, Regional Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the Middle East, Central Asia, Türkiye, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. During the meeting, the minister highlighted Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators and recent fiscal reforms that have supported economic stability.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb praised IFC’s ongoing partnership with Pakistan, especially its support for private sector development and multi-billion-dollar investments under the 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF). He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving the early financial closure of IFC’s flagship Reko Diq project, which is attracting renewed global interest. The minister also welcomed IFC’s decision to open its regional office in Islamabad, which he said would help deepen collaboration and project oversight.
Later, the finance minister met Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). He thanked the Bank for its longstanding cooperation and financial support to Pakistan. Both sides discussed the ongoing development portfolio, emphasizing faster project implementation and stronger coordination.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb appreciated the IsDB Board’s approval of financing for two sections of the M-6 Motorway. He also expressed hope for continued cooperation in Pakistan’s polio eradication initiatives and the oil financing facility.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to develop a new Country Engagement Framework for Pakistan (CEF) to further strengthen future collaboration.
