Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has issued a public warning about fake e-challan SMS messages being circulated under the name of Karachiβs official traffic system. He clarified that these messages are fraudulent and not connected to the Karachi Traffic Police.
In a statement, the DIG Traffic explained that the department has not yet launched any system to send e-challans via SMS. He urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid sharing personal information or making any payments through such fake links. βPeople should ignore any messages claiming to be official e-challans,β he emphasized.
The warning comes after several residents reported receiving suspicious text messages falsely claiming to be issued by the Karachi e-challan system. Authorities suspect that scammers are using the cityβs new digital fine system as an opportunity to trick vehicle owners.
To enhance transparency and convenience, the Karachi Traffic Police recently introduced a mobile application called βTracks Citizen.β The app allows motorists to easily check their e-challans, traffic violations, and vehicle details through a secure platform.
According to officials, users can log in with their CNIC to access complete records of vehicles registered under their name. Once logged in, all related data, including pending fines and payment options, appear on the appβs dashboard.
The new Karachi e-challan system aims to digitize and simplify traffic fine management. However, officials warn that scammers may misuse its name to defraud citizens. The DIG Traffic advised residents to verify any notifications through official sources, including the Tracks Citizen app or the Karachi Traffic Police website.
The department also encouraged the public to report any fake e-challan SMS messages to the cybercrime authorities. This step, officials said, will help curb fraudulent activities and ensure the safe use of Karachiβs new digital traffic monitoring system.
