Islamabad โ Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that Field Marshal Asim Munir personally assured Sri Lankan cricket officials of comprehensive and foolproof security amid recent concerns.
Naqvi stated that the Sri Lankan president and team management were thoroughly briefed on the security measures being implemented across all venues. Following these briefings, the Sri Lankan players expressed full confidence in the arrangements and decided to continue their tour of Pakistan.
According to the minister, the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and Police are jointly supervising all security operations to ensure the safety of visiting players and officials. โAll relevant agencies are working together under a coordinated plan,โ Naqvi said.
While addressing the Senate, Naqvi also revealed that Afghan nationals were involved in the recent attacks in Islamabad and at Wana Cadet College. These incidents, he noted, have prompted heightened vigilance and reinforced security across sensitive areas.
Despite the security challenges, Sri Lankan authorities appreciated Pakistanโs proactive approach and the detailed briefings provided by top officials. They confirmed that their cricket team would not withdraw from the tour, emphasizing their trust in Pakistanโs assurances.
The developments underscore Pakistanโs ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of international teams and maintaining its reputation as a secure venue for global sporting events.
