Apple is preparing to release the 12th-generation Apple iPad in spring 2026, bringing performance upgrades while keeping the familiar design.
The new Apple iPad will retain the 11-inch edge-to-edge display, Touch ID on the side button, and relatively thick bezels. The design remains similar to the 10th-generation model, which first aligned the low-cost iPad closer to the iPad Pro and iPad Air aesthetics. The tablet continues to feature a 7mm thick body, Retina LED display, and Apple Pencil support, with cameras and USB-C ports remaining largely unchanged. Apple may also introduce new colors for the 2026 edition.
The key improvement comes from the A18 chip, already seen in the iPhone 16 series. Built on a 3-nanometre process, the A18 boosts speed and efficiency compared to the A16 in the current model. The upgrade enables Apple Intelligence features, previously limited to higher-end iPads. Gamers may benefit from hardware-accelerated ray tracing and enhanced graphics. RAM is expected to increase from 6GB to 8GB, supporting these new features.
Connectivity is also getting a boost with the potential addition of Appleโs N1 chip. This chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread networking technology, allowing the Apple iPad to connect to faster 6GHz networks. Cellular models may feature Appleโs own modem chips, designed for high performance and better battery efficiency.
Pricing for the 12th-generation Apple iPad is expected to remain consistent with the current 128GB model, starting at $349. The release window is likely between March and June 2026, potentially launching alongside the iPad Air updates.
For consumers considering the current iPad, waiting for the 12th-generation model promises a faster, smarter, and more connected tablet without changing the design they already enjoy.
