Govt Appoints Abdul Wahid Sethi as Acting NBP President and CEO

The government has appointed Abdul Wahid Sethi as acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank of Pakistan. He will lead the state-owned bank for up to three months.

The appointment was confirmed through a government notification issued on August 21. Sethi currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the National Bank of Pakistan, commonly known as NBP.

Under the new arrangement, he will take responsibility for leading the bank on an interim basis. His appointment comes as the government works to fill the top leadership position at the institution.

Abdul Wahid Sethi to Lead NBP for Three Months

According to the notification, Abdul Wahid Sethi has been appointed for an interim period of three months. However, the arrangement could end before the completion of that period.

His tenure will conclude earlier if the government appoints a permanent President and Chief Executive Officer. This means Sethi will remain in charge until a permanent appointment is made or his three-month term ends.

The government made the appointment under the Corporate Governance Regulatory Framework. The framework sets governance requirements for leadership and management positions at state-owned institutions.

Experienced Banking Professional Takes Charge

Abdul Wahid Sethi brings significant experience in banking and financial management to his new responsibility.

He has been serving as NBP’s Chief Financial Officer before receiving the acting leadership role.

Banking circles regard him as an experienced professional in the country’s financial sector.

He is known for dealing with complex banking and financial matters. His experience as CFO is also expected to support continuity during the interim leadership period.

As acting President and CEO, Sethi will oversee the bank’s operations while the government considers a permanent appointment.

National Bank of Pakistan Gets Interim Leadership

NBP is a state-owned commercial bank and holds an important position in Pakistan’s banking sector. Leadership appointments at the institution are therefore closely followed by the financial and banking community.

The latest decision provides the bank with interim leadership while the process for a permanent chief continues. Abdul Wahid Sethi will perform the responsibilities of President and CEO during this transitional period.

The notification does not indicate when a permanent President and CEO will be appointed. Until then, Sethi will oversee the bank under the terms specified by the government.
