Allegations of State-Sponsored Suppression and Injustice Against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Leadership

In a press conference held in Islamabad, PTI central information secretary Raoof Hasan made serious allegations against what he termed as a “reign of terror” orchestrated against the party for the past 22 months. Hasan claimed that this campaign, purportedly under the ‘London Plan’, aimed to dismantle PTI and remove its founding chairman, Imran Khan, from the political landscape.

Accompanied by notable figures including Senate Standing Committee for Human Rights Chairman Walid Iqbal, former advisor to the prime minister on accountability retired Brig Musaddiq Abbasi, and former Punjab advocate general Ahmad Awais, Hasan accused the government of subjecting PTI, its leaders, and workers to severe state terrorism and brutality following the events of April 9, 2022.

Hasan further alleged that corruption cases against the opposition, particularly the Sharif and Zardari families, were conveniently shelved upon their return to power, highlighting a stark contrast in treatment compared to PTI members who faced relentless persecution.

Pointing to the economic downturn during the tenure of the previous government, Hasan criticized the rapid decline in economic indicators and the soaring inflation rate, attributing it to mismanagement and corruption.

Moreover, Hasan lamented the challenges faced by PTI leaders and workers, ranging from illegal detentions to harassment and custodial torture, alongside raids on their residences. He emphasized that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to strip PTI of its electoral symbol disenfranchised millions of voters.

Despite these adversities, Hasan affirmed PTI’s commitment to lawful and constitutional means of resistance, expressing confidence that justice would prevail through the power of the vote on February 8.

Other speakers echoed Hasan’s sentiments, decrying the denial of fair trial rights to Imran Khan and the blatant disregard for constitutional principles. They urged the public, particularly youth and women, to participate in the electoral process as a means of restoring justice and upholding democratic values.

In conclusion, the speakers condemned what they perceived as systematic violations of the constitution and rule of law, calling for accountability and transparency in the face of authoritarian tactics employed against PTI leadership.
