Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, alongside Sheikh Rasheed and 100 others, has been formally indicted for the May 9 attack on Rawalpindi’s General Headquarters (GHQ). The violence, triggered by Khan’s arrest, resulted in significant damage to military and public properties.
The riots caused extensive losses, with Rs 1.98 billion attributed to damages suffered by the Pakistan Army. Authorities hold the PTI leadership responsible for orchestrating the attacks, which also targeted Lahore’s Jinnah House and Peshawar’s Radio Pakistan building.
A total of 143 individuals face charges in the GHQ case. Among them, 23, including Shahbaz Gill and Zulfi Bukhari, have been declared absconders, while 10 have already been convicted by an anti-terrorism court.
On Thursday, Imran Khan, Sheikh Rasheed, and other PTI leaders like Raja Basharat and Zartaj Gul Wazir were formally charged with sedition, terrorism, and conspiracy. All accused have denied the allegations.
