Neil Gaiman, celebrated author of The Sandman and Coraline, has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault in a New York Magazine exposé published Monday. The report expands on earlier claims first highlighted by Tortoise Media, where five women detailed their allegations in the podcast Master.
The New York Magazine article, titled There Is No Safe Word, shares accounts from eight women. Accusers allege incidents ranging from non-consensual BDSM to rape, with some involving financial settlements and nondisclosure agreements (NDAs).

One accuser, Scarlett Pavlovich, claims she was sexually assaulted by Gaiman while working for his family. She alleged he called her a “slave” and paid her $9,200 after the incidents. Another accuser, Caroline, described unsettling encounters on Gaiman’s Woodstock property, which resulted in a $300,000 settlement.
Gaiman’s representatives have denied the claims, asserting that all acts were consensual and lawful. However, the allegations have led to significant professional repercussions. Prime Video’s Good Omens will conclude with a single episode, while Disney has paused production on The Graveyard Book. Netflix, meanwhile, cancelled Dead Boy Detectives but will continue with The Sandman Season 2.
