Despite widespread protests and concerns, the Netflix password sharing crackdown has not led to a mass exodus of subscribers as anticipated. Recent data from research company Antenna, as reported by Variety, indicates that Netflix is actually experiencing an increase in new accounts as people continue to sign up. Antenna’s research reveals that Netflix had its most substantial surge in new user sign-ups since January 2019 following the implementation of its password sharing crackdown. Between May 25 and 28, the number of new users per day skyrocketed to 73,000, representing a remarkable 102% increase. Despite a rise in cancellation rates, the influx of new subscribers overshadowed the impact of these cancellations.

These results may disappoint Netflix users who were hoping for a reversal in the company’s stance on password sharing. It seems clear now that the crackdown on password sharing is not just a temporary measure but a long-term strategy for Netflix.

Contrary to expectations, the Netflix password sharing crackdown has not caused a significant decline in the streaming platform’s user base. In fact, the recent data indicates that Netflix is experiencing a surge in new sign-ups, surpassing growth expectations. While some users may be disappointed by the crackdown, it appears that Netflix is committed to implementing measures to curtail password sharing in the long term.
