In Islamabad, an accountability court has summoned PML-N leader Ishaq Dar to appear on October 10, as a reopened asset beyond means case is set to proceed against him. Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir has issued the notice to Senator Ishaq Dar in response to this development. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recently revisited numerous corruption cases against politicians following a Supreme Court ruling in Pakistan.

Earlier this month, a bench led by the outgoing Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, along with Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, found a petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against amendments to accountability laws by the previous coalition government to be admissible. While Justices Bandial and Ahsan deemed Imran’s plea admissible, Justice Shah provided a dissenting opinion.
The court also invalidated certain amendments to the accountability laws, deeming them inconsistent with the Constitution of Pakistan. Following the Supreme Court’s nullification of these amendments, the NAB has returned the case to the accountability court, and proceedings have commenced accordingly.
