More than 700 Trucks carrying international humanitarian aid have entered Afghanistan through Pakistan, according to the United Nations. The aid deliveries continued despite the near-total closure of the land border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The border restrictions have remained in place following clashes between the two countries in October 2025. The convoy transported food and other essential humanitarian supplies for vulnerable Afghan families.
Olga Cherevko represents the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan. She confirmed details of the shipments to AFP.
724 Aid Trucks Cross Through Torkham
UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Pakistan Mo Yahya also shared details about the humanitarian operation.
He said 724 Trucks carrying humanitarian cargo had crossed into Afghanistan through the Torkham border. According to Yahya, the supplies were intended for families requiring urgent humanitarian assistance.
He thanked Pakistan and others involved in keeping the humanitarian supply route operational. The development comes as Afghanistan continues to face serious humanitarian challenges.
Food insecurity remains a major concern, particularly for children and families affected by displacement and natural disasters.
Child Malnutrition Reaches Critical Levels
The World Food Programme warned in early August that acute child malnutrition had reached critical levels in Afghanistan. The country has faced several overlapping challenges that have increased pressure on vulnerable communities.
Deadly earthquakes struck Afghanistan last year. Several climate-related disasters have also affected the country this year. At the same time, millions of Afghans have returned from Pakistan and Iran since 2023.
According to the WFP, nearly 14 million people in Afghanistan are currently facing acute hunger. The growing demand for food assistance has made reliable humanitarian supply routes increasingly important.
Border Closure Disrupts Humanitarian Supplies
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have faced additional pressure following clashes in October 2025. The conflict resulted in a near-total closure of the land border between the neighbouring countries.
The restrictions have significantly affected logistical routes used to transport humanitarian supplies into Afghanistan. WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau highlighted these difficulties in comments to AFP in May.
He said border restrictions had severely disrupted routes used for humanitarian aid deliveries. Despite these challenges, hundreds of aid Trucks have now crossed through Torkham carrying essential supplies.
The latest deliveries provide an important humanitarian route for communities facing hunger and other urgent needs. International agencies continue to focus on delivering food and critical supplies to vulnerable Afghan families.
